Lent focuses on reflection and repentance (a changing of direction).

So I welcome the opportunity to explore Jesus' journey over the next forty days and the love ethic he lives and teaches.  Its power resonates throughout history in powerful ways when people have lived it fully.  

In the midst of fear-mongering, I want to lash out at those who are hurting me and those I love.  To do this only allows this sickness in our world to grow, because our actions show we have been infected by it as well.

Instead, Jesus loves creatively and powerfully.  Jesus understood that responding in kind (through violent words or action) moves us to the same moral ground as the attackers.  When we choose love as the basis for our resistance and actions, we expose the violent nature and ugliness of those who choose to divide, demean and dominate. We see this courageous love throughout history and it has often created justice.

Join us through Lent and the rest of the year, as we explore our theme of “bearing witness”. We will learn about the different forms that Jesus' love can look like and how it can manifest.
